Calliphora Bags

I’m Michela Francesconi, founder of the Calliphora Bags brand.
Born in 1987, I’m a self-taught artisan in the leather goods industry. Driven by my love and passion for craftsmanship, in 2017 I decided to leave my full-time job to launch the Calliphora project—an evolving brand dedicated to reviving the art of handmade craftsmanship. I opened my workshop on December 8, 2019, in the historic center of Lucca, at Via Busdraghi 19.
I learned a craft from scratch—one that no one in my family had ever practiced before me. I’ve gained the necessary experience, which I continue to build upon today because I still have so much to learn. I invested in building my business and purchased the necessary machinery. I didn’t want to stand out simply through eye-catching designs that were different from others. I wanted to stay true to who I am—not chasing a market share but creating a business based on specific values: tradition, quality, originality, and craftsmanship.
From design to the sourcing and selection of raw materials, the entire production process is carried out by hand with the utmost care.
My goal—the philosophy behind my entire brand—is to continue creating bags and accessories designed and crafted by me, made entirely by hand, while maintaining a short supply chain free of mass production.
