The artisan firm Borgo Solaio was born in 2016. It is a project that takes its inspiration directly from Tuscany, modeling itself after the handicraft of excellence that, during the fifties, has given life to Florentine haute couture. The handbags, woven with Yuta ribbon and other materials, recall a time when “things were made to last.” The research, the combination of recyclable materials with unique and precious fabrics and the care of the weaving are the peculiar features of the line of handbags, that includes bowler bags, over the shoulder styles and clutches. The most used materials in the collections are Yuta, wool and other yarns, a selection of satins, velvets and other fabrications and leather. Yuta and leather are cut and woven by hand; the styles made of wool and other textiles are crocheted; the handbags are hand made with the techniques of traditional tailoring. Each piece is lined with fabric and, depending on the style, can include wooden handles (like bamboo) and handles made of fabric or other materials; the findings (closures and other small elements) are of metal. The choice of materials is crucial in the philosophy of Borgo Solaio and necessary for the creation of the product as a one-of-a-kind. The Borgo Solaio collection includes also small accessories like make-up bags, headbands and hair clips. The packaging is in line with the image of the firm and it is entirely hand made.
