In 1842, Doctor Alessandro Bizzarri opened in the Piazza della Signoria in Florence a shop that was all together a pharmacy, perfume shop, grocery, herbal remedies shop and even sold products for the agriculture. This historic business has become over the years a point of reference in Florence, a guarantee of extraordinary knowledge in a field at the same time very fascinating, special and a bit mysterious like that of the apothecarists. Until today, on its wooden shelves and in the glass vases, it is preserved an old apothecary wisdom that is passed on untouched through the generations. At the beginning of the 20th Century a new management took over: they preserved the business and the name. In 1966, as a consequence of the devastating flood, the store was moved to via Condotta where we can still see part of the original furniture. At Bizzarri you can find extraordinary, unique products: chemical products for photography and restoration, spices and herbs, paints and colors, extracts and essences, dyes and cosmetics products and a spectacular glassware department featuring burettes, pipettes, flasks, measuring cylinders, conical flasks, beakers, mortars, spirit lamps, test tubes and anything you might need to set up a small laboratory. Not only: there are also for sale many extracts and spices to produce cordials as well as essences and suggestions on how to create fragrances. A testimony of the great professionalisms at Bizzarri is its clientele that includes the “Soprintendenza alle Belle Arti” that for a long time has been sourcing here the materials for the restoration of its works of art, and all the Florentine artists who consider this shop their point of reference. Bizzarri, a true and tried panacea for beauty, health, art and harmony.
