Profilo

Cesare and Iolanda Mazzetti are heirs to a long family tradition of copper working. Their copperworks in Montepulciano was founded by Cesare's grandfather in the late 19th century. He began as a coppersmith, buying the raw material from a foundry in Gran Sasso to make cauldrons and purchasing crockery from Barga (Lucca) and lamps from Florence, to be finished in copper. Cesare's grandmother sold these products in local markets. In 1903, Cesare's father was sent to learn fine working from master coppersmith "Ghiotto", who taught the enthusiastic youngster to make jugs, pots, pans, crockery and decorative plates. The famous Mazzetti Copperworks was born and a branch was opened in Chianciano. On the death of the master coppersmith, Cesare's father purchased all his equipment - punches, anvils, bellows and lathes - dating from 1857, which Cesare today treasures. Difficult years followed, when production of copper items dropped. Cesare and his brother Bernardo, born in 1936 and 1930 respectively, joined the family business. On his return from military service, Cesare opened a small plumber's business, but carried on helping his father at the copperworks, whose reputation continued to grow. He then decided to make a definitive comeback to coppersmithing, on his father's advice and thanks to his notable capacity for creating, shaping and engraving beautiful objects. In 1982, along with his wife Iolanda, he opened the successful little Copper Workshop, to make top quality craft products, for Italian customers and tourists.
