The wine of Florence

The wine of Florence is produced in one of the areas most suited to viticulture in Tuscany.

It is the wine of the “Colli Fiorentini,” the gentle hills surrounding Florence.

This area is part of the Chianti DOCG designation and is one of the officially recognized subzones since 1932, although winemaking tradition dates back at least to the Etruscan and Roman eras. During the Renaissance, Florentine wine was already renowned in European courts, and many of the Medici villas scattered throughout the region were at the center of agricultural estates dedicated to the production of wine and oil. Over the centuries, noble Florentine families, such as the Antinoris, contributed to the qualitative growth of local wines. Currently, the designation “Chianti Colli Fiorentini DOCG” is produced with at least 70% Sangiovese grapes, and local varieties such as Colorino or Canaiolo can be used to complement it. The “Chianti Colli Fiorentini DOCG” is generally distinguished by its elegant, fruity character, with a pleasant acidity that makes it versatile at the table. Local producers, often small or medium-sized, maintain a strong connection to the territory and focus on sustainable winemaking techniques and a balance between tradition and innovation.

The hills around Florence are an integral part of the city and are a highly appreciated destination for wine tourism. Those visiting Florence will hardly leave without taking a tour of the villages and wineries surrounding the city. The beauty of the landscape, the extraordinary quality of the wines, and the goodness of the local cuisine will leave an unforgettable impression.
