In historical reality, Castelvecchio was one of the oldest and most important possessions of the Cavalcanti family (an ancient Florentine family engaged in commerce). The name of the property is already mentioned in a document from 1189 related to real estate transactions, in which Castel Vecchio di Val di Pesa is referred to. The building followed the rather alternating fortunes of the Cavalcanti until, after the outcome of the battle of Monteaperti, which took place between Siena and Florence, it was razed to the ground. In the 15th century, on the ruins of the ancient castle, a villa was built. Later abandoned, it was reduced to a simple farmhouse located in the middle of a thick forest. In 1960, the property was purchased and renovated by Renzo Rocchi, giving it an elegant appearance of a dignified residence. Cellars were built, vineyards were planted, and everything began out of passion and love for the countryside. At the entrance of the company, the notable Church of San Lorenzo stands, of which there are testimonies dating back to the mid-12th century, in pure Romanesque style, and it is the only building that survived the medieval battle. The stone coat of arms positioned on the façade has accompanied the company logo for many years. Filippo and Stefania, along with their father Carlo Rocchi, began dedicating themselves to Castelvecchio in 1993. From that day on, they made a life choice, initiated by passion and deep gratitude toward their grandfather Renzo Rocchi, who founded the company in 1962. The Fattoria di Castelvecchio is an organic farm. “From 1998 to today, we have created a collection of unique and original labels with the intent of following a path made of research, passion, and enthusiasm where tradition and innovation work together and experiment in the vineyard as well as in the cellar with new emotions at every harvest.”. The cellars, located underneath the villa, are equipped with stainless steel tanks for winemaking and provide an ideal environment for aging in wood or cement and subsequent refinement in the bottle. The quality of the wines comes from the excellent grapes obtained with passion and from the continuous and constant care of the vineyards, ensuring the exclusivity of the product. The production line has always aimed at affirming the character and originality of the wines. The Organic Extra Virgin Olive Oil "Castelvecchio" is still obtained using the traditional method; the olives of different varieties, moraiolo, frantoio, leccino, and correggiolo, are completely handpicked directly from the tree and brought to the mill within 24 hours. The pressing takes place strictly cold, only this method allows for the production of oil with very low acidity and a distinctly unmistakable flavor. Filtration is natural, and any deposits are due to its natural decantation. Winery is open to all enthusiasts or passing tourists interested in Tuscan wine and extra virgin olive oil, for a tasting or simply to purchase or get information about our products (Monday to Friday, 10:00-12:00 and 15:00-17:00. Saturday mornings by appointment only, 9:00-12:00). It is possible to book guided tastings of wine and oil with a tour of the cellars and an explanation of the winemaking and aging methods. Upon request and if the weather permits, a short walk in the vineyards is also planned. To book visits and tastings, please contact Stefania Rocchi at +39.055.8248032 or info@castelvecchio.it. The Castelvecchio Farm also offers accommodation options for a unique and unforgettable vacation focused on relaxation. For a stay in close contact with nature, surrounded by olive trees and just a few steps from the winery, there is an ancient farmhouse recently restored and divided into comfortable private apartments for agriturismo for couples or families with children. Once a week, guests can participate in an exclusive tasting of our wines in the 15th-century Villa Hall, with a visit to the cellars and a walk in the vineyards. During the seasons and according to availability, we offer enjoyable activities such as: creative Tuscan cooking classes, hot air balloon tours, or horseback riding excursions. https://www.facebook.com/fattoriacastelvecchio https://www.instagram.com/castelvecchiofituscany/
