GMG Alabastri – Gazzarri Maria Grazia

Since 1979 Maria Grazia Gazzarri has been devoted to the manual working of alabaster. Her preferred traditional working method, along with fretsawing, is sgraffito, carried out strictly by hand with small “chisels,” specially made by a blacksmith. Maria Grazia’s work has evolved to include the restoration of alabaster and ceramic artifacts, another material on which she experiments with numerous techniques, such as painting. In the two workshops where the activity takes place, it is possible to attend demonstrations of alabaster work (by appointment, also for groups). The workshop-shop is located in Volterra at Via Anditi di Docciola 4 and is open every day from 10:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. and from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., from March 15 until October 31; during the remaining months with reduced hours.
