Inside the splendid and evocative walls of the Castle of Monteriggioni is Artes, an artisanal textile workshop born in 2008 thanks to the work, the passion and the great competence of the weaver Antonella Nanni. Antonella, supported by the precious work of Luana and Caterina, two very skilled weavers, creates garments, handbags, carpets, tapestries and much more, all made with hand-made fabrics and knits. The yarns used are mainly four: cottons and linen for the summer garments and Merinos Super-wash and the Super-kid Mohair for the winter ones. These yards are weaved with two handlooms creating wonderful textiles. The use of the looms allows for a particularly refined craftsmanship and makes it possible to create original items, all unique and different. The workshop, always open to the public, gives the visitor the chance to know and discover the techniques of hand-loom weaving and to discover the original hand-knitted creations. The workshops also sells finished products and can take orders for garments or products made to measure and personalized. The Artes bottega is located inside the wonderful fortified castle of Monteriggioni, dating back to the Middle Ages and perfectly preserved to this day. Monteriggioni is one of the most beautiful villages in the Sienese countryside, along the Via Francigena, between San Gimignano and Siena, surrounded by a great number of country trails and white paths that can be easily traveled on foot and by bicycle.
