Ecomuseo dell’Alabastro

The Ecomuseum tells the story of the indissoluble relationship between Volterra and alabaster, highlighting the preserved sculptures and explaining, in a simple way, how one goes from the raw material extracted from the quarry to the delicate artifacts, and how these have been at the center of flourishing trade. A journey back in time, into the history of the precious stone and the Volterra community: extraction, processing, marketing – from the Etruscans to the present day – outlined and displayed in the medieval Minucci tower-house.
